Traditional Irish supergroup Solas will be performing at the Ark in Ann Arbor on the evening of Tuesday February 21st, 2017. In conjunction with that appearance, the band's legendary fiddler, Winifred Horan, will be teaching a 90 minute workshop for friends and members of DIMA on the day of the concert.

About Winnie:
In addition to her career as founding member and fiddler for Solas, she is currently a faculty member of the New England Conservatory in Boston where she is an instructor in the Contemporary Improvisation department. Winnie has a friendly and easygoing teaching style that is welcoming for players of all backgrounds and skill levels. Prior to Solas, she was a member of and toured with The Sharon Shannon Band, and also performed with Irish singer-songwriter Pierce Turner. She was "featured fiddler" on When Juniper Sleeps, a 1996 solo album by Séamus Egan, and co-writer of certain tracks for the 1995 film The Brothers McMullen. She is, as of 2004, a nine-time champion Irish stepdancer and an All-Ireland fiddle champion, having won an All-Ireland Junior Championship at age eleven. In a December 2001 interview, Horan identified Liz Carroll and Sharon Shannon as her top musical influences.

About the workshop:
The workshop is intended for fiddle players of all skill levels interested in Traditional Irish music. There will be an emphasis on adding several new tunes to your repertoire. Participants are welcome to record the workshop.
The workshop will be held from 5:30pm to 7:00pm at a location in Ann Arbor near the Ark. The concert at the Ark begins at 8pm. Package pricing is being offered includes both participation in the workshop and a ticket to the concert ($25 value) for $50. The price for participating in the workshop alone is $35.00
