The Detroit Irish Music Association has deep roots in the Irish community in Michigan. It was founded in 1984 by Dan O’Kennedy where was first known as The Crotty Doran Branch of Comhaltas Ceoltoiri Eireann, named for the renowned concertina player Elizabeth Crotty of County Clare and Johnny Doran, a famous traveller uilleann piper from Wexford.
